For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. – Genesis 2:24

A. America upheld Biblical values in reference to divorce up until 1969. Until this point in America your spouse must be at fault in order to file for divorce. Protecting marriages in America. The Bible tells us there are only 2 faults that can be grounds for divorce:

  1. Adultery
  2. Abandonment by spouse.

(Adultery should only be used if your heart is so hard you cannot forgive. This would be no repentance for adultery) Biblically, God hates divorce. There is no real reason for divorce. If you love God and make a vow to love your spouse you should be prepared to withstand the ups and downs of married life. No marriage is smooth. Every marriage has rocky points where one spouse or the other wants out.

Now, it is common place to divorce for any reason. To bail out of marriage the first time of trouble. Biblically, In OT times, Divorce was only allowed with a written statement of why spouse was not performing spousal duties and only allowed because of man’s hard heart.

Jesus preached of Love. True love comes from:

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

As a Christian operating in Love as Christ tells us, there is no path that should lead to divorce. (of course exceptions are always there, i.e. In cases of adultery if spouse cannot get over it or if a non – Christian spouse leaves. )

B. In America, Marriage use to be allowed between man and woman only. Now homosexual marriage is allowed in America. Biblical stance of marriage in OT and NT is that marriage is between one man and one woman. Regardless of our genetic makeup or psychological feelings, we are here to die to ourselves and honor God in all we do.

As individuals you are allowed many freedoms in a Christian America. You have freedom to follow any religion or no religion at all. You have freedom of sexual orientation. However, America as a Christian Nation, should not condone sin (sin would be divorce for selfish reasons, homosexual relations, fornication, adultery etc..)

We, in support of a Christian America should love all people but support the foundation of biblical marriage as God has ordained. If we allow sin in our Nation, we are responsible to God for this action. We cannot turn a blind eye.
