Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Why are we here? Are we here for our own purposes? Or are we here to glorify God for his purposes? Of course, our sole existence for our lives is to glorify God for His purposes not ours. So how can our health relate to glorifying God?

First, we must realize God made us. He knitted us together in our mothers’ womb. We do not have imperfections. We are made the way God designed us. We are not to criticize our maker, like the clay does not criticize the potter. God has a reason for the way he made you. Your job is to do his will with what he has given you. Do not try to compare yourself to others. God has a special plan why he made each of us the way he did. Look at Nick Vujicic. He was born with no arms and no legs. He has done more to lead people to Christ with no arms and no legs than a million people with arms and legs. God made Moses with a speech impediment and then chose Moses to be a leader. What man considers non-normal may be normal for God. Make the most with what God has given you. Our body is the temple for Gods’ Holy Spirit. We need to maintain our bodies in top shape so the Holy Spirit can use us the way God has intended regardless of what our eyes see as defects. God does not see defects. God is the creator.

Second, the main areas we need to be concerned about is caring for our spirit / soul. Our spirit needs to grow and be exercised. This is done by studying the word of God. The more we read the bible, the more we grow and the stronger we are spiritually. We spirit / soul is in a constant battle. Our spirit / soul wants to follow its own sinful desires. We have to submit ourselves to Christ in order to break the desires of the flesh. The only way to properly submit to Christ is to read the word of God as depicted in the bible, to pray and to fast. God will reveal to you his presence and vision for you if you do these things.

Third, our body should be maintained in good condition by proper sleep, food and exercise. We cannot fulfill the plan God has for us if we overindulge in food, drink etc… Eat properly, drink properly, sleep properly and you will be physically fit to fulfill God’s will as he has called for you.

We should seek to maximize all we can from what God has given us. This means to pray and seek for healing and protection when attacks come against us physically and mentally. Satan will try to distract and destroy us if he can. Standing strong in faith is our best defense. Do not listen to the world, listen to God. Stand firm on his word.
